Hand woven from locally sisal grass by women in a small weaving group in rural Kenya, these woven baskets make brilliant home storage and can be used desk tidies and planters, on bedside tables and coffee tables - or for knitting, crafting, toys, muslins or toiletries. These baskets will live many varied lives in your home over the years!

The weavers who produce these storage baskets used to travel regularly to Nairobi to sell their woven baskets, but The Basket Room now provides them with regular weaving work which can be done from the safety and convenience of their own homes. Finished baskets are kept in purpose-built mud huts before being shipped to us in the UK. As demand for woven homewares ever increases, this skilful group continues to grow under the guidance of its bold Chairlady, Madam Dorcas Ndinda.

Your orders keep her 150 skilled weavers in regular work, empowered by this precious craft to provide for their own families more comfortably through the fallow, dry seasons.
