Transform your space and declutter in style with the KWAATA floor basket, sporting beautiful shades of red, pink and purple in a tribal pattern. This round woven basket is truly one-of-a-kind: you won’t find another like this, so once it’s gone it’s gone! Fill yours with kindling and logs, toys or rugs and throws – it’s up to you!
Each one of these unique, floor baskets take up to three days to weave by hand, using veta vera grass which produces baskets of excellent structural balance and durability. This indigenous grass is hand picked from the tip, hand-rolled and dyed in boiling water before being woven by a skilled member of our partner weaving cooperative in Northern Ghana.
Agricultural work is the mainstay of most of these Ghanaian weavers’ incomes, but the pervasive dry season makes it increasingly difficult for families to meet school fees and medical bills. Basket weaving brings opportunity to earn a flexible and valuable second income. Each woven basket is supplied with some information about the weaving cooperative who made it.
